Dear campus colleagues,

This Sunday, January 15, the 2023 Chevron Houston Marathon is scheduled to take place, and the race route will impact traffic patterns around the Rice campus. This email includes information on navigating the surrounding roadways best while the marathon takes place. We have included links to the race route, highlighting where it will affect the campus.

During the race, expect street closures and no traffic allowed in and out of the campus for these areas. The entrance gates along Sunset Blvd. will be closed from 6:15 am until 10:05 am and will impact campus entrances 23, 25, 27 A, and 27 B. The entrances along Main St. (campus entrances 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) and University Blvd (campus entrances 8, 9, and 10) will also be closed from 6:15 until 10:05 am. The Chevron Houston Marathon website with maps and further details can be found here: https://www.chevronhoustonmarathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/CHM_AHHM_Course_Closures-FINAL.pdf. RUPD officers will be assisting with these closures.

There will be seamless routes on and off campus, but it will require planning. Unobstructed travel routes should be planned which utilize the map included. The main route on and off campus during the race will be via Rice Blvd. https://www.chevronhoustonmarathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2020-Race-Day-Driving-Directions-Rice.West-University.pdf.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Good luck to our community members who will be running this race!

Respectfully,

Rice University Police Department
