The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. The RAD system is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a Martial Arts program.

Our courses are taught by certified RAD instructors who are members of the Rice University Police Department.

RAD training has been adopted as a pro-active effort of the Rice University Police Department for the "Women of Rice."

Simulation #2We operate on the premise that a spontaneous violent attack will stimulate a natural desire to resist on the part of the victim. We educate women by enhancing their options of physical defense as being not only prudent, but a necessity if natural resistance is to be effective.

The RAD system empowers women to make their own decisions regarding self preservation and self defense options.

To date, the Rice University Police Department has instructed in excess of 1000 Rice affiliated women and is currently offering the RAD class as a Human Performance and Health Sciences course to satisfy those curriculum requirements.

Contact Capt. Dianna Marshall at the Rice University Police Department regarding upcoming classes or to answer any questions you may have.
